Calm Canopy

As the pandemic struck the world by surprise in March 2020, Mike Papaloni hit a breaking
point. He’d felt trapped in his day job for years, unable to find the time and energy to pursue
his solo career after instrumental band Dog Drive Mantis (for which he played guitar)
dissolved. Within days of the first lockdown in 2020, Mike utilized the sudden pause in
fast-paced life to immediately work on writing new music and re-define his brand as Calm
Canopy- an ode to the deep peace and inspiration he feels when spending time in nature,
under the canopy of many trees.
A few months later, Mike and his partner drove across the country with their two cats to live
on Vancouver Island for a change of scene, where Mike would write and record the first
Calm Canopy singles in a bedroom studio, which were all released over the span of a few
months.
In early 2021, Calm Canopy’s consistent new single releases made their way into new ears,
gaining over 100,000 streams via various Spotify editorial playlists such as Indie All Stars,
Fresh Finds, Fresh Finds: Rock, Fresh Finds: Indie, Fresh Finds: Pop, RADAR Canada,
New Music Friday Canada, undercurrents, and Ready to Rock.
Creating entire wall-of-sound style indie rock and po songs from his bedroom studio, Calm
Canopy dives into themes of mental health, human consciousness, love, and autonomy.
Mike currently lives and works from his home studio in Paris, Canada.

knows how to pen a song, play, record, and do everything else" - It's All Indie
